Campaigning to be an Influencer

Tr Now I'm sorry but this is just silly. Training Industry.com is sponsoring a list of the "Top 20 Most Influential Training Professionals." I'm not saying that the list itself is silly although do we really need to have this kind of competition among training professionals?

I'll tell you what is silly though are the emails that I am getting from people who have been nominated and asking me to go vote for them. Please people..what is this? What's next buttons? Posters? A series of debates focusing on such topics as "I'm more important that you are" and "No, I am"?

How about Top 20 Problems facing our industry? Or Top 20 anything but this beauty pageant.

I received two emails today from what I had previously considered to be at least partly important "nodes" in my learning network suggesting that I should promptly go and vote for them in some type of childish "Top 20 Influentials"... [Read More]

I've been canvased, too. While I'm not against awards, I do let people know that asking me for my vote guarantees they won't receive it.

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Some folks are just getting on the eLearning bandwagon...can you believe it!? And some of those folks are seeing dollar signs and figuring how to market themselves and their services in the VERY old school marketing style.
Basically, as I see it, we have within the industry the old-school trying to keep the status quo, and the new school driving the next generation of Technology into the realm of Learning.
Old-school needs magazines and titles to put on a plaque behind the desk. New school wants a conversation with other like-minded professionals driving the field forward impacting other professionals around the globe.

I'm with you. How do you identify the most influential trainers anyway? They don't get famous, they just get on with the job.
