We Lost A Good One Folks....We'll Miss You Philip
Philip Dodds, Chief Architect of SCORM and ADL (and so many more important things), died this Saturday.
I'm sure there will be many posts remembering Philip...there should be. This is guy whose work has literally shaped the face of the e-learning world as we know it.
Other people knew Philip better but I was privileged to work with Philip for something like 5 years in the earliest days of ADL and SCORM and will be forever impressed not so much by the scope of his intellect - which was vast, or by his sense of humor - which was expansive - but by his passion for something so technical that most people's eyes would glaze over as we started talking about it.
Philip understood.
He understood that the technical issues were the pain and the hard work that someone had to endure and suffer so that the rest of us who weren't so tough, dogged or flat-out smart enough would still be able to enjoy the benefits.
There are no links here although there are a number that could be included. There are no pictures, although I have some I may share later. I'm just a bit dazed that Philip is gone - he was always there - behind the scenes - working incredibly hard and ridiculously long hours for little or no credit.
Philip you are missed. Godspeed. Sue, you are in our prayers.
Update: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute, Anne Arundel Medical Center, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.

When I die, I want Mark Oehlert to write my obit.
Enough said.
