OpenSocial, UWA and Facebook: What do the tabs tell us?

TealeavesSo I am culling back through my open tabs and I am hitting the ones that talk about Google releasing its OpenSocial APIs, and then I hit the Facebook Platform tab I had open, and then I am reading netvibes news about how it will be linking all existing social APIs as plugins for its Universal Widget API.

My tea leaves seem to be saying that netvibes is looking like the big winner here. Google and Facebook get to play the VHS/Betamax war over social networking APIs and netvibes just stands in the middle making stuff that will work with all of them.

So what right? I'm still working on that but maybe next week while I am at I/ITSEC, I'll wander the expo floor and ask some of the e-learning vendors what their plans are to help their clients move toward an Enterprise 2.0 stance with regard to their systems and developments such as OpenSocial and UWA. I'll let you know what they say.

  • "The hallmark of revolution is that the goals of the revolutionaries cannot be contained by the institutional structure of the society they live in. As a result, either the revolutionaries are put down, or some of those institutions are transmogrified, replaced, or simply destroyed. We are plainly witnessing a restructuring of the music and newspaper businesses, but their suffering isn’t unique, it’s prophetic." --Clay Shirky
