There is purity in obscurity. Are the more authentic sub or counter-cultural "plights" more attractive? Is it a worldly assimilation of the best elements of more mainstream cultures into a sub or counter culture? Perhaps it is reverence for more universal ethical or moral convictions? A combination of reverence and irreverence within a delicate cocktail of fair and just perception? Balanced internal vs. external value system? Dunno where I am going with this. Just riffing : )
