911memorial Pentagon_memorial Flight_93

I don't know what to say anymore 6 years down the line except that a lot of innocent people die all the time and that without question or exception, the people who died in these murderous, criminal, cowardly, evil attacks on 9-11, were innocents and did not deserve to die.

**I will say this; the morning of Sept 11 2001 I was at the USMC base in Quantico Virginia and I was unable to see any of the images of the attacks until I got home about 5.5 hours later. I am watching the re-broadcast of the NBC coverage of that morning and it really is bizarre for me to see this whole thing again as a set piece. My stomach is clenching up and I find myself desperately wishing for the power to go back in time and stop this.

***This seems appropriate:

"... I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?"
"The Summer Day" by Mary Oliver, from House of Light.

"The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break[s], servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt."
-- John Philpot Curran, on the right of election of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, speech before the Privy Council, Dublin, Ireland, 10 July 1790

"The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disentrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country."
Abraham Lincoln From the December 1, 1862 Message to Congress

  • "The hallmark of revolution is that the goals of the revolutionaries cannot be contained by the institutional structure of the society they live in. As a result, either the revolutionaries are put down, or some of those institutions are transmogrified, replaced, or simply destroyed. We are plainly witnessing a restructuring of the music and newspaper businesses, but their suffering isn’t unique, it’s prophetic." --Clay Shirky
