Silly Microsoft...Silly China

"Chinese Communist Party chief Hu Jintao has vowed to "purify" the Internet, state media reported on Wednesday, describing a top-level meeting that discussed ways to master the country's sprawling, unruly online population."

Amazon Recommendations Are Seriously Cracking Me Up!!

Amazon_recommendations_1

Amazon sometimes gets it right and sometimes you just have to say "WTF?" I logged in tonight (i've totally forgotten why because of this) and my recommendations popped up. Number two on the list is this entry - How To Date A White Woman. Huh? Weird but funny (weird because I think I cracked that code a few years ago and also since I'm not Asian. I know, Oehlert just sounds all Asian but no, its not). Then the laughs really kicked in when I saw why this had been recommended - because I had put Sid Meier's CIV IV on my list. Double huh? Do mainly Asian guys looking for white women play updates of classic turn-based strategy games? Had I stumbled into some demographic neighborhood? Seriously, WTF?

Rehabing the Boring Out of Serious Games (1UP.com story)

MediaThis is utterly funny. The premise is that 5 "famous" (I might just go with "employed" in some of the cases) game designers, rehabilitate the world's most boring games. The first sentence of the first review (of Virtual Leader) just sets the tone: "Like a long staff meeting at the big conference table, but without the doughnuts, Virtual Leader teaches managers how to squash the hopes and dreams of worker bees."

"Congress Abandons WikiConstitution"

"WASHINGTON, DC—Congress scrapped the open-source, open-edit, online version of the Constitution Monday, only two months after it went live. "The idea seemed to dovetail perfectly with our tradition of democratic participation," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said. "But when so-called 'contributors' began loading it down with profanity, pornography, ASCII art, and mandatory-assault-rifle-ownership amendments, we thought it might be best to cancel the project." Congress intends to restore the Constitution to its pre-Wiki format as soon as an unadulterated copy of the document can be found."

  • "The hallmark of revolution is that the goals of the revolutionaries cannot be contained by the institutional structure of the society they live in. As a result, either the revolutionaries are put down, or some of those institutions are transmogrified, replaced, or simply destroyed. We are plainly witnessing a restructuring of the music and newspaper businesses, but their suffering isn’t unique, it’s prophetic." --Clay Shirky
