It's Official! Mark Is Headed to a New/Old Job

Reply_moving_image That's right folks, yours truly is departing the MASIE Center and returning to Washington D.C. to work with my old buddies at Booz Allen Hamilton and some other opportunities that I can't exactly talk about right now but which I'll happily talk about when they firm up a bit more.

Let me just pause right there and say something to Elliott Masie. I want to say thank you. Thanks for all the help you provided in my family's not-so-easy re-location to Saratoga Springs. You really went above and beyond the call there. I also want to say thanks for such a great learning opportunity. Working at the MASIE Center and watching Elliott and his tremendous team build a new conference like Learning 2005 from the ground up was an invaluable experience. I also wanted to thank Elliott for trying to teach me to better see things from other people's viewpoints. I wasn't always successful in that endeavor but that was my fault and not Elliott's and I want to apologize if that particular shortcoming ever caused you (Elliott) concern - that was never my intent I assure you.

Elliott was also willing to try things that I brought to him like Wikis, virtual worlds and some of the learning-focused open source  projects.  I would encourage everyone who hasn't to visit the Learning Wiki, which was originally created for Learning 2005 but which has already extended far beyond that conference. So, thanks Elliott for the experience and the learning - I'm better because of it.

There you have it...new job..new chapter in life... but the blog will remain (although I am looking at some cool new ways to liven up the old joint!). Thanks for reading and keep on learning!

Value Added Training: Reusable Learning Objects

from the U.S. Navy

Story Number: NNS040722-10
Release Date: 7/22/2004 4:30:00 PM

From Center for Cryptology Public Affairs

PENSACOLA, Fla. (NNS) -- The Center for Cryptology (CC) Corry Station completed the first cryptology course under the Revolution in Navy Training’s Reusable Learning Object (RLO) format in June. The course will provide initial skill training for Sailors entering the cryptologic technician technical (CTT) rating.

The revised training materials meet the standards specified by the shareable content object reference model (SCORM), which addresses interoperability, accessibility, and reusability of learning content. This means the RLOs operate interchangeably with different tool sets and platforms, can be accessed from one or many remote locations (such as Navy eLearning via Navy Knowledge Online) and delivered to other locations, and are flexible enough to be used in multiple applications.

  • "The hallmark of revolution is that the goals of the revolutionaries cannot be contained by the institutional structure of the society they live in. As a result, either the revolutionaries are put down, or some of those institutions are transmogrified, replaced, or simply destroyed. We are plainly witnessing a restructuring of the music and newspaper businesses, but their suffering isn’t unique, it’s prophetic." --Clay Shirky
