tag2find - Do It Yourself Metadata

Tag2find Saw this article on TechCrunch and I thought 'Oh, that's kinda cool.' Then I looked at the demo here and I thought 'Gee, I wish I was smarter about metadata creation because this seems pretty cool. Stay with me...then I thought about how Google Desktop's ability to search network folders and across computers and how the Google Desktop API is open and I thought, 'Gee, what if someone wrote an API to use Google Desktop to search the tags created by tag2find across an entire e-learning development department.' Is it just me or does that create some sort  of distributed repository? Not perfect by a longshot (especially since it just exists in my head) but the ease with which you can use something like tag2find makes me wonder....

Now if Business Week is talking about tagging....

"'Tags' ease sifting of digital data"

Check this out folks: "That's "tagging," and it's currently all the rage among the digerati." Wow. I'm finally doing something that's all the rage. I missed the Charleston and streaking so finally I catch something. Also, does that mean if I'm doing it, I'm part of the digerati? I found this list of digerati and didn't find my name on there. Just wondering if that is a complete list.

"The Next Generation of Open Tagging Systems?"

(from Library Stuff)

Interesting post on WISTS which looks to be some kind of visual bookmarking system. The post on Library Stuff rightly points to the key ability of WISTS though to aggregate or allow for more complex combinatorial tagging.

  • "The hallmark of revolution is that the goals of the revolutionaries cannot be contained by the institutional structure of the society they live in. As a result, either the revolutionaries are put down, or some of those institutions are transmogrified, replaced, or simply destroyed. We are plainly witnessing a restructuring of the music and newspaper businesses, but their suffering isn’t unique, it’s prophetic." --Clay Shirky
